Takuya Yokoyama, a ceramic artist based in Tajimi City, Gifu Prefecture, creates works with an enchanting beauty that captivates viewers. We are pleased to announce that his pieces are now available at Senchado Tokyo, perfect for enjoying with sencha tea.

Utensils with a curious charm that seamlessly blend into any scenery

Elegant, lightweight, yet solidly grounded. The more you look at them, the more mesmerizing they become.

Yokoyama's signature cracked texture on the surface envelops the piece in a profound atmosphere. While it might seem intimidating at first glance, it actually exudes a welcoming charm.

Whether in a modern stylish room or a rustic mountain cabin, his works possess an uncanny ability to harmonize with their surroundings.

Yokoyama's mastery in crafting unique shapes is evident in all his works.

This spouted bowl features a subtle indentation along its outline, seemingly designed to fit comfortably in the hand. The balance between this and the slightly uneven cut of the spout is remarkably beautiful.

Pay attention to the small spout and the underside of the piece.

Perfect for moments of quiet tea enjoyment or an evening savoring sake.

According to Yokoyama, "Tea stains can detract from the appearance over time," so he has applied a special treatment to prevent staining inside the piece.

This makes maintenance easier and allows more people to enjoy his work. It’s sure to enrich your daily life.

Words from the Artist: "The allure of remaining anonymous and bypassing meaning" - An Interview with Ceramic Artist Takuya Yokoyama

Your workshop is located in Tajimi, Gifu, correct?

Yes, it’s in Tajimi. But my workspace is completely chaotic—nothing like the typical charming potter’s studio.

I often get requests during interviews to include photos of my workshop or my face, but I always decline.

I prefer to remain as hidden as possible and let my work speak for itself.

Not to be critical, but I feel that in the ceramics world, there’s often an added value placed on the story behind a piece before it’s even created—like what kind of clay was used, what kiln was employed, or where it was made.

While these narratives might make it easier for people to connect with the work, I want to focus on what happens “after” the piece emerges from the kiln.
