Gentle Colors with a Sturdy Presence

"Rinka Shallow Bowl M"
A Versatile Dish for Any Cuisine

The serene white oak "Rinka Series" pairs beautifully with vibrant nectarine salads. Combining three ingredients of similar colors can create a visually stunning salad. With ample depth, it's perfect for cream chicken stew, nikujaga, or mapo tofu. It can handle most main dishes for family meals! For salads, you can even toss the dressing right in the bowl. It's a versatile piece suitable for entertaining guests as well.

"Rinka Shallow Bowl S" Ideal for Side Dishes or Desserts

The 13cm diameter "Rinka Shallow Bowl S" is perfect for side dishes or desserts. Try it with a mix of zha cai, steamed chicken, and daikon sprouts. It's also just the right size for cut fruits as an after-dinner dessert.

About SAKUZAN Pottery

"From Beautiful Work, Beautiful Vessels. From Beautiful Vessels, Delicious Smiles."

SAKUZAN Pottery's history began in 1944 when the founder, Sakuichi, started a transportation and farming business under the name Yamasaku, later expanding into ceramic overglaze painting. In 1987, the third-generation owner, Nobuyasu Takai, established "SAKUZAN Pottery Co., Ltd."

Interview with SAKUZAN's Nobuyasu Takai "Aiming for That 'Just Barely Stable' Point"

"I always consider the balance between past shapes and glazes when creating new pieces. Some pieces we made long ago are selling better now than when they were first released, likely because cooking and plating methods have evolved." "The 'straight plate' design has actually been around for 15 years. We made it for restaurants, but flat plates weren't well-received back then. Deep plates with curved edges were considered easier for plating." "But in the past few years since we've reintroduced it, it's been selling rapidly. The rough texture of the glaze is a key feature of this series. The feel changes depending on the glaze, so each color can be different." "We supply to restaurants and hotels, so we need to maintain consistent colors and textures. Stability is crucial. But I aim for that 'just barely stable' point. We could make more stable pieces, but they'd end up looking flat and lacking depth."

About Individual Differences

Each "Rinka Shallow Bowl" is meticulously crafted by skilled artisans at SAKUZAN Pottery, leveraging their expertise and extensive experience. While produced in a series, each piece is individually molded and carefully fired. As a result, each piece may have slight variations in glaze appearance, and you might notice black spots (a phenomenon where iron naturally present in the clay oxidizes during firing and appears as powder on the surface of the vessel).

Before You Buy

・Each piece is handcrafted from molds. Glaze application and colors may vary slightly. Please enjoy the unique character of each piece.
・Before first use, always wash with water or lukewarm water.
・After use, clean promptly and dry thoroughly before storing.
・When stacking, place a thin sheet of paper between pieces to prevent scratches.
・Dishwasher safe, but avoid overloading to prevent damage.
・While the bottom is treated, if you feel it's rough, we recommend gently smoothing it with fine-grit sandpaper.

Things to Avoid

・Using abrasives, abrasive cleaners, metal scrubbers, etc. (To prevent surface scratches, avoid these and use a soft sponge for cleaning.)
・Using in the microwave immediately after removing from the refrigerator. (This may cause cracks or breakage.)
・Dry heating or direct flame use.
・Using if cracks or fissures appear.
・Dragging the piece across tables to prevent scratches.
